TrustCapture is trust infrastructure for digital media — hardware-signed at capture, registered in an append-only chain, scored on evidence rather than judged as real or fake.

Why now

The standards and the hardware are arriving together.

Hardware-backed provenance is moving from proposal to default. The Google Pixel 10 ships hardware-backed C2PA signing by default — the first mainstream phone to do it — putting signing-at-capture into consumers' hands rather than leaving it to professional tools.

Regulation is arriving on the same timeline. The EU AI Act's Article 50 transparency obligations become mandatory on 2 August 2026, and the European Commission's own Code of Practice names digitally signed, timestamped metadata as one of two accepted marking methods — precisely the mechanism TrustCapture is built around.

Technology

The hard part is built.

TrustCapture signs a capture manifest — a SHA-256 hash of the media plus timestamp, location, and device attributes — with a hardware-backed ECDSA (ES256) key held in the device's secure element (Apple Secure Enclave, Android StrongBox). The private key never leaves the chip, so a valid signature is evidence the capture came from a specific, attested device.

Signed manifests are written to an append-only, cryptographically chained registry in PostgreSQL — each record links the previous one's hash, so any retroactive edit is detectable. The registry sits behind a Native AOT C# gRPC service: a small, fast, self-contained binary chosen for low operational overhead at the trust layer.

The verification link is embedded in the image itself as a QR code, so provenance survives the screenshot-and-reupload path that strips file-embedded metadata — the gap that limits metadata-only approaches. This capture-to-registry pipeline is built and running in development today.

Market focus

A wedge where photo evidence already decides money.

The initial wedge is car-sharing and peer-to-peer rental damage documentation — pickup and drop-off photos already settle real financial disputes, so verifiable capture has immediate, concrete value. From there the same registry extends to rental listings, marketplaces, and other high-trust exchanges where the cost of a disputed or fabricated image is high.
